Getting started

How to play

  • Lay the phone flat between the two of you. Red plays at the bottom, Blue at the top.
  • Put a finger on your mallet and slide it around your half of the table.
  • Hit the puck into your opponent's goal, at the far end of the table.
  • Both players play at the same time: the screen tracks one finger per player.
  • The pause button sits on the center line, within reach of both players.

The rules

These are tournament air hockey rules, adapted for a phone. The app shows them before every match.

  1. First to 7 goals wins the round.
  2. The match starts with a face-off: the puck sits on the center line, and both players can hit it.
  3. Whoever gets scored on takes the puck and has 10 seconds to put it back in play.
  4. After that, each player has 7 seconds to send the puck to the other side. If not, it's a foul and the puck goes to the opponent.
  5. No crossing the center line: your mallet stays on your half.
  6. If the puck touches the center line, either player can hit it.
  7. Own goal? The point goes to your opponent.
  8. In a multi-round match, rounds 2, 4 and 6 start on the side of the player who lost the face-off; rounds 3, 5 and 7 start on the winner's side.

Tips

5 tips to win

Defend first

Keep your mallet between the puck and your goal. A goal against costs more than a missed shot.

Use the walls

A bank shot comes in at an angle: it's much harder to stop than a straight shot.

Aim, don't just smash

A puck that's too fast comes back just as fast. A shot placed in the corner of the goal gets in more often.

Watch the clock

7 seconds to send the puck back, or it's a foul. Don't keep it on your side too long.

Mix it up against the AI

The hard AI reads the puck's path. Change angles and rhythm to catch it off guard.

How do you play air hockey for two on one phone?

Lay the phone flat between you. Each player puts a finger on their mallet, the circle in their color, and slides it around their half of the table. Both players play at the same time.

How many goals to win?

First to 7 goals wins the round. In a best of 3, 5 or 7 match, you need to win 2, 3 or 4 rounds.

What is the 7-second foul?

When the puck is on your side, you have 7 seconds to send it to your opponent. If not, it's a foul and the puck goes to the other side.
